Best in Beauty 2016

Today’s post is all about beauty!!
I am a product junkie when it comes to makeup, skin care, hair care, etc. I put together all my most used and most loved products for all of 2016. Most of these are items that I’ve  repurchased over and over because I know they work.

To start off I am going to talk about my favorite, which is makeup. I have always had a love hate relationship when it comes to makeup. Well I love it and it hasn’t always loved me. The past year I have had the worst allergies and makeup was one of them. I tried a new eye liner and eye shadow and things went wrong. My eyes swelled up for a solid month. So I ended up going back to my Maybelline eye liners and mascara because they are gentle and affordable. If you are having  similar issues I highly recommend this brand for their eye products. They’re both long lasting and easy to apply. Another makeup item for eyes is the Naked 2 palette from Urban Decay. It’s a palette Ive used for a while now and I love it. Its a perfect balance of shimmer and matte shades so you can switch it up. My favorite shades are booty-call, snakebite, and tease.

I also included my favorite foundation, concealer and powder which cover and conceal everything. Both foundation and concealer are from Estee Lauder the double wear stay in place line. If you have acne prone skin this will not break you out and it lasts all day. The best way of applying them is with a beauty sponge or a dense face brush. I included my two favorites, which are both from the drugstore. The pressed powder is by Rimmel London in the shade 001 transparent. It’s very affordable and you can find it in the drugstore. I have tried many high end and low end powders and this one is the one I always go back too.

For skin care I have found the brand that has really worked for me and that is Clinique. To give a little background of my skin, I have very oily, acne prone skin, and it’s been a long journey to really find what works for me.  This brand has always been gentle enough for daily use but still harsh enough combat acne. I highly recommend checking them out if you have similar issues with your skin. The other Clinique products I wanted to mention are the clarifying lotion for after you wash your face and the moisturizing gel for oily skin. These two have made a huge difference in clearing up my skin. They other Clinique items are the acne face mask, that I use as a spot treatment for blemishes and the eye cream. Both I have been using for years now.

As far as hair care, this has been the year I have really taken the best care of my hair. It’s fuller and thicker than its ever been and I truly give credit to the products that I have been using. I wash my hair every 3 days and instead of a conditioner I use a deep repair mask that I let sit in my hair for 5 to 10 minutes. It has made a huge difference in the texture of my hair. It’s the Macadamia deep repair mask. Another favorite it the Perfect 10 leave in spray. It does so many things, from conditioning, heat protection, and controling frizz, and more. Without this my hair gets very dry at the ends and hard to style. Another great tip, if you don’t wash your hair everyday, is to use a dry shampoo. I have tried many different types and I always go back to the Baptiste dry shampoo. It works well and it’s affordable.

That’s all of my favorite beauty buys for 2016. I hope this was helpful. Let me know if you use any of these items or recommend something new for me to try.

Here are all the products mentioned and a few more below with links to buy 🙂

DIY Body Scrub

Another fun homemade beauty recipe to try!! I love finding new ways to make homemade beauty products using things you find in your pantry. It’s cheap, easy, and it works just as good if not better than the products you buy in stores.
This time of year everyone wants that gorgeous tan, and a body scrub is the perfect thing to use on your skin before you lay out in the sun. There are so many types of  scrubs out there that you can do at home using things like coffee grounds, milk, olive oil, baking soda, etc. This recipe that I am sharing  has vitamin E oil to help your skin and cinnamon oil for a yummy scent. You can switch out oils for something else if you like or even add more.  After using this your skin feels so soft and moisturized right after you use it. Here are all the ingredients below.

 What you will need:

1 cup of Brown Sugar
1/2 cup Coconut oil (melted)
1/2 tsp  Vitamin E oil
1 tsp of Honey
1/4 tsp of Cinnamon oil
Small Containers

Once you have your ingredients ready, mix it all together. Then spoon your mixture into your containers. Simple as that! This is a perfect take home gift idea for bridal or baby showers, or even a fun stocking stuffer when Christmas rolls around.  This recipe ended up making the perfect amount to fill both of my glass containers, without an left over. 🙂

Hope you enjoyed!! Thanks for stopping by!!

Eyeshadow Nail Polish

After mindlessly searching on Pinterest I stumbled upon the coolest trick for painting your nails I had ever seen, using eye shadow as a nail polish. I had to try this. It took me a few attempts to see how to get it to really work for me. Here is two to techniques that I tried.

1.One way to do this

For this method you will need:
Plastic spoon (to mix your new color)
Plastic knife (to scratch off the eye shadow)
Clear polish
Eye shadow (mine is MAC in cranberry)

Mix the clear polish with your eye shadow. It does work but the nail polish brush drys fast with the eye shadow in it, so fast that it gets ruined. I tried soaking it in nail polish remover, didn’t work. I tried using water, didn’t work. I ended up putting it back in the clear nail polish. You can see in the picture the eye shadow fell to the bottom and now the clear polish has a bit of color in it. 😦 So if you have a little less clear polish  that you need to use up, then this method is good for that.

This was the final result. I liked it, but you do end up using more eye shadow, and it comes out more shiny than glittery (if your using a glittery eye shadow).

2. The other way to do this
(which I prefer)

What you will need:
 Makeup sponge
Clear polish

Eye shadow (mine is MACs honey lust)
I also used OPI Cajun shrimp on my other nails

Apply the clear polish on your clean nail and then quickly dab a triangular sponge into the eye shadow (you only need a little). Then dab it on your nail while its still wet. Just a couple of dabs on your nail will do, otherwise it will smear and wont look right. Then apply another clear coat to seal it. Loved this technique the best. You use less eye shadow, less mess, and the color comes out closer to the actual eye shadow color.

3.OPI in Strawberry Margarita buy it here
I am a big fan of pink nails and this color is like a bright barbie pink. You can tell by the picture that this one has been well loved. 🙂

Quick and Easy Hair Mask

Hello Friends
Its time for a beauty post. I love finding inexpensive beauty remedies that you can do at home and that actually work. I have been looking for a nourishing hair mask for a while now mybecause my hair is very chemically dependent and gets dry and damaged easily. But most hair masks out there are so outrageously expensive, so when I asked my hair dresser what is a way to get a hair mask that conditions well and won’t break the bank, this is what she recommended.

Coconut oil with Vitamin E

Vitamin E contains valuable antioxidants that help to keep the immune system up and improves circulation to all parts of the body, including the scalp. The use of coconut oil on hair helps to reduce protein loss in hair. It is also is said to help stimulate hair growth. So your not only getting a conditioning treatment but also something that will help your hair grow fuller and thicker.
This is this coconut oil and vitamin E I used.
Both can be found at the grocery store.
I mix about two big spoonfuls of coconut oil and 10 drops of vitamin E oil together. I apply this to wet hair and leave it in for 20 to 30 minutes. This is so good for your hair you can even leave it on your hair all night if you like.
Rinse well and then this is what my hair looked like after I dried it, only using this mask one time. My hair defiantly feels softer and a little thicker. 🙂

Let me know if you have tried this or any other fun at home hair treatments you would like to share.
Thanks !!!

DIY Face Mask

There are so many DIY face masks out there that are so beneficial for your skin. Depending on the ingredients you use, you can really make a different in the appearance of your skin.
The fact that all these ingredients are found in your kitchen makes it so inexpensive (huge plus) and fun to make. The mask I’m using is to targeted for my own skin issues which are acne and redness. As soon as you put it on your skin, its so soothing. I left it on for 15 minutes and washed it off with cold water. It makes your skin feel so clean and moisturized 🙂

Here is what each ingredient targets:
Cinnamon- is beneficial to the skin because it brings blood and nutrients to the skin surface while also helping to dry acne
Lemon juice– is antibacterial and helps reduce the appearance of scars and it’s also a natural exfoliate
Honey– is a natural antibacterial so helps clear up acne. It’s also clarifying because it opens up pores making them easy to unclog. It’s extremely moisturizing and soothing.
Baking soda– helps balance the skin’s pH. The antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties helps treat the cause as well as reduce the symptoms of acne and other breakouts.
Each ingredient has so many benefits to your skin and makes the perfect mask. Let me know if you have a DIY mask you love to use.

Favorite Drugstore Nude Lilpsticks

When it comes to lipstick I am a true fanatic. Ever since I was little I would run around wearing my mom’s lipstick where ever I went. ( I thought I was so grown up) It was my first real introduction into loving makeup. Skip to 20 something years later and nothing has changed. I can’t leave the house without a little color on my lips. But finding a good lipstick can be a challenge. You want to find one that goes with your skin tone or that looks great with your outfit, but drugstore makeup is always a hit or miss. The one thing I can’t stand is buying a bunch of drugstore makeup and getting home and not liking what you bought.  It feels like such a waste. Now before I buy, I love to check out reviews on certain products. So I have gathered up my own favorite drugstore lipsticks to give my own review. Now I tend to gravitate toward nude shades for everyday, so I put together 6 nude shades with slightly different undertones. I love theses because they’re inexpensive, they have great pigmentation and they don’t dry out your lips.  So go check them out. 🙂 Let me know if you have tried these out or if you have a favorite you’d like to share.

1. Revlon Lip-butter Pink Truffle- Very creamy and a darker nude shade that is more on the berry side
2. Covergirl -Sultry Sienna- Deeper nude shade
3. Rimmel London- Airy Fairy- Perfect pinky nude color with slight cool undertones
4. Revlon- Demure- This is great for the spring and summer. It has a coral undertone to it so it complements skin with more yellow undertones.
5. Miliani – Nude Beige- Smells like watermelon and is a slight pink nude color that looks very natural.
6. Revlon Lip-butter – Creme Brulee- This is the lightest I go for. Its not so nude that you can’t see you lips but It does have more of a taupey undertone so your lips have that perfect nude look that goes great with a smokey eye.

January Favorites- 2016

January is now officially over and I thought what a better way to start off a new month, than with a beauty post. Which is all about my favorite beauty products for the month of January (well some a little longer). I am an avid product user and I love to try out new things to see what really works. So for the past month these are what I have been loving when it come to everything hair, makeup, and skin care related. 🙂 Let me know if they are some of yours as well!

1.Clinique acne cleansing gel

This is something I have been using consistently for the past few months. I wash my face twice a day this face wash, and I love the difference it has made with my skin.  I went out of town and accidentally left this at home for entire week and my face broke out so bad. As soon as I started using this again my skin cleared right back up. If your skin is anything like mine (very oily and acne prone)  I highly recommend this product. It’s a gel so it cleans the skin completely but not to drying. After I use this my face feels so clean and refreshed.

2. Perfect 10 leave in spray

This is another great item I use all the time. After I wash my hair and it’s still damp I spray this all over my hair and brush it through. It makes your hair feel so soft and hydrated. It does everything it clams too.  It detangles, conditions, its protects your hair from heat damage, and adds shine just to name a few. When I started using this I noticed a huge difference in my hair. I have very fine and well… chemically dependent hair you might say and this product keeps my hair manageable and repairs all the damage I do to it. This is a huge must have for me and one I have repurchased many times.

3. Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation

I have tried many foundations in my life and this is by far the best one I have ever used. Since I  have oily skin I’m always on the lookout for something that won’t clog my pores and has a medium to high coverage. This one covers any imperfection and not heavy on the skin. It blends very easy, I find using it with a dense foundation brush or damp beauty blender yields the best results. It also does exactly what it claims to do, which is “stay in place.” Once it’s on, it does not crease, smug, and lasts all day. It comes in 30  shades so you can find your perfect match. 🙂

4. Rimmel London Airy Fairy

I have heard a lot about this lipstick from other bloggers and YouTube makeup gurus and decided to try it out!  I now use it everyday. Its a very flattering light pink shade that has very cool tone to it so it really complements most skin types, and its very affordable!!

 5. Rimmel London Stay Matte Powder

Another drugstore fave of mine is this powder from Rimmel London. It is a pressed powder that I use to set my foundation and is comparable to a lot of high powders out there.  If you are looking to save money but still want a powder that works well than this is what you need. It keeps my skin looking matte and you get a lot of product, especially for the price.

6. Aveda Pure Abundance style prep

I love this stuff!! It is a miracle worker for fine and flat hair (which I have). I use this once I have washed my hair and it’s still a little damp. I give this a couple of good sprays right at the roots around the top of my head (where you what more volume)  Once you finish blow drying your hair that’s when you can tell the difference. 🙂

7. Jergens Natural glow

Who doesn’t love to have a little tan going on? I know I do but getting a tan and getting to last are difficut thing to have when you a little one running around. So the next best thing to real tan is fake one 🙂 This Jergen natural glow I have used for a while now and I still love it. I have used it for an everyday tan or for special occasions, like my wedding. Like it says, It is a gradual tanning lotion so the color is build able and doesn’t leave you with that orange appearance. Only advice with this stuff is to make sure you rub it in completely!
8. Clinique moisturizing gel
 $26.00 Buy it here
This paired with the gel acne cleanser that I mentioned is the perfect pair for combating acne. Because its a gel it moisturizers without putting more oil back into your skin.

9. MAC naked lunch eye-shadow

MAC always has the best eye shadows. They have great pigmentation and no fall out. The color “naked lunch” is one I wanted to mention because I have been using it quite a bit in the past few weeks. I use it as highlight on the brow one and in the inner corner. It has just enough shimmer in it to look like a natural glow.

10 . Benefit Brow zing shaping kit

$32.00  But it here
This is everything you will ever need for your brows. As you can tell from the picture this product as been well loved. I have used this particular eyebrow kit for over a year now and it’s still going. I have the blonde shade and even when I decided to darken my hair, it still matched and easily build able. It comes with 2 small angle brushes and tweezers and a mirror. I love it because you get a wax and a powder that you can either use separately or together.

Hope this was helpful for anyone looking for a few make up reviews. 🙂
